30 DAYS OF DAWN
During an off-season trip to Los Angeles visiting friends in 2018, Craig was invited out to capture an early-morning surf session on Venice Beach as part of their annual “30 Days of Dawn” surf challenge — a month-long mission to inspire each other’s mind, body and spirit and achieve a collective goal.
With the lifts not spinning in Aspen in October, Craig took a different approach to participating the next year. He set out every morning to capture the same 30 sunrises his friends were seeing while riding waves together. Still, Craig did it alone to share a singular perspective of the Elk Mountains through photography, capturing the mountains and tranquil rivers, roaming wildlife, and inclement weather.
Upon completing the first-year project, Craig was invited to be a featured presenter for Aspen Center for Environmental Studies’ popular Potbelly Perspectives speaker series, where he gave a behind-the-scenes look into his 30-photo finished project. Year two saw Craig unexpectedly traveling home to Spokane, Washington before returning to Aspen to wrap up the month near home. Craig wrapped his third annual 30 Days of Dawn Photo Challenge featuring three National Parks and another 30 consecutive days chasing light.
Craig recently completed his fifth straight year shooting close to home, exclusively in Pitkin County, Colorado. He has since been interviewed by the Aspen Chamber of Commerce, Aspen Public Radio and Adorama.
