ABOUT

Craig Turpin is the founder behind the camera of Rising Sun Photography, named in honor of his childhood in Northern Japan. Based in Aspen for more than a decade, Craig collaborates with commercial, special event, and editorial clients across industries from travel and tourism to food and beverage to action sports and automotive to real estate and retail.

Always inspired by the Land of the Rising Sun, Craig is best known for his annual “30 Days of Dawn” photo challenge along with capturing landscapes and wildlife in the Roaring Fork Valley and on global adventures. Craig offers limited edition runs of fine art prints and custom commissions for collectors around the world.

Craig began his career as a producer at PBS Western Reserve, before moving to Manhattan where he landed his dream job at NBC Universal as a producer and editor in Rockefeller Center. Craig won three Regional Emmy Awards in both Ohio and New York for documentary and television projects.

Trading skyscrapers for 14’ers, Craig relocated to Aspen in 2012 when he received a rare opportunity to work with the luxury resort broadcast network Plum TV. After it sold a year later, he went on to serve as the chief photographer for Aspen’s newspaper of record for five years.

Fluent in English and Japanese, Craig holds a B.S. in Digital Media Production from Kent State University’s School of Media and Journalism. When he’s not in the field or on assignment, Craig can be found snowboarding, golfing, hiking, gardening, birding, and cooking.
